watching faces
remember
youth
and heroes
and yearnings
a tweak at the
corner of a
mouth
sharpening
of an eye,
the grin
something fresh
and clean
of ideals
still held
after,
especially after
years of maybe,
of disappointments
and distillations
and disillusions
but also of hopes
fulfilled and
touched
caressed and
received
the flaring up
of recognitions
that we heard it
right
and it wasn’t all
a mask
the tellings of our
youth
spoke truth.
